Client Profile

The service offers community-based, CQC registered support which helps people with behaviours that challenge and complex needs live happily and safely in the community.

The range of their management team, from team leaders to the CEO, took part in a bespoke five-day leadership development program.

Training Overview

At its core, the bespoke training was the Skills for Care Fully Funded Leadership and Management programmes, however it was developed through determining the aims of the client’s leadership team. The Alium consultants sat down with the client in a pre-training session where the aims and challenges of the client were discussed to develop the tailored course.

Working with their Training Manager we clarified the principal aim as gaining confidence in leading teams at every level. The client also wanted to work with a company which recognises their values.

We integrated their values into the training materials. After agreeing the materials, the Training Manager fed back to us that ‘Our first impressions were particularly good, Alium were accommodating, and also wanted to make sure that the needs of the company were met.

Once training began, it was clear to see that the staff were engaged with training, they enjoyed the breakout rooms and scenarios which were set for us. The tutor had a lot of skills, knowledge, and his own experience to share with us. The trainer was able to respond to questions with knowledge, he also shared his own good practice with us’.

This planning reflects Alium’s status as a Skills for Care Centre of Excellence.

Key Learnings and Impact

Participants were supported to create an action plan at the end of each day. Over the course, and in the months that followed the action plans ensured that knowledge was translated into capability.

Senior Management Team feedback included ‘Throughout the training we could see a difference, staff had gained confidence, asking more questions to gain further knowledge. After the training was completed we can see that the managers approach to staff is so much better and more effective. They are more organised, understand the importance of planning, how to prioritise their days and weeks.’

Conclusion and Future Outlook

The client have told us that ‘Did we make the right decision, YES, we did. The training that Alium provided was at a high standard with learning material provided to support each course. The Tutor was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and understood how our jobs can be stressful at times and that priorities can change. I would recommend this training course, you will see a significant difference in the staff team, and how they are able to lead a team with confidence’.

This program has set the foundation for providing outstanding support and for the organisation to grow.

CQCs quality statement for a Safe service includes ‘Staff receive the support they need to deliver safe care. This includes supervision, appraisal and support to develop’ and for Well Led includes ‘leadership as an inclusive and positive culture of continuous learning and improvement’.
