CQC Update: What the New Scoring System Means for You

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is continuing its journey towards a more transparent and responsive regulatory framework — and that includes how services are scored.

As part of its Single Assessment Framework rollout, the CQC has announced changes to the way scores are calculated and presented.

While the quality categories (Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, Inadequate) will remain the same, providers will now be able to see an overall score out of 4, alongside individual category scores. This change is designed to:

✅ Give clearer feedback on performance, by showing a numeric score as well as a judgement.

✅ Help providers track improvement more easily, especially when working towards a   higher rating.

✅ Increase transparency, for providers and the people they support.

At Alium Care Training, we welcome this move towards greater clarity. We know that providers are committed to delivering high-quality care — and clearer CQC feedback is another useful tool for continuous improvement.
