Description

Course Content 

The courses develops the competence and confidence of carers in communicating with older children and young people. 

This course can also be tailored to your needs.  

The course covers: 

  • The role of effective communication when working with older children and young people 

  • The general principles of effective communication and adapting these to older children and young people with communication challenges. 

  • Understanding non verbal communication 

  • Augmented and alternative communication systems including an introduction to Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) 

  • How to be a good listener  

  • How to help looked after children feel listened to and that their opinions matter

Assessment: Ongoing observation and end of session activity.  Each delegate will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
